The Monte Azul Agrarian Cooperative was founded on October 3, 2015 in the city of Tarapoto by the initiative of small producers from certain sectors and populated centers located around this city, belonging to the provinces of Lamas and El Dorado, department of San Martin – Peru. The project initially started with 20 farmers, and to date, Monte Azul has 300 partners distributed in 18 sectors.

The climate is temperate with temperatures ranging from 22 to 30 °C on average. The producers' plots are located at altitudes ranging from 900 to 1600 meters above sea level. They are biodiverse with abundant vegetation, various sources of water such as rivers, streams, streams and springs, optimal for the development of agriculture. The members of Monte Azul practice and produce coffee and cocoa in a traditional way, respecting environmental conditions. In parallel, the partners are engaged in secondary activities such as raising small animals and crops for bread, such as corn, beans, and plantains. The seeds used for both cases are from their own plots.
